The Florida State University Department of Oceanography graduate program offers both master of science and doctor of philosophy graduate degrees in oceanography with specializations in biological, physical, geological, and chemical oceanography. Graduates from the Department of Oceanography hold many faculty positions in universities and colleges, as well as research posts in industry, private research institutions, federal and state laboratories, and regulatory agencies. The placement of our graduates attests to the quality and integrity of this fine oceanography graduate program.
Graduate Students - Research Opportunities at the FSUCML
The FSU Coastal and Marine Laboratory has tentatively scheduled its Overnight Big Bend Explorama Extravaganza (OBBEE) for Friday and Saturday, September 5-6, 2008. The goal of the OBEE is to provide FSU graduate students in Oceanography and the Ecology and Evolution section of the Department of Biological Science with an introduction to research opportunities at the FSUCML and the Big Bend coastal region. The Lab provides a shuttle from the King Building with return on Saturday, the overnight stay, and three meals. For more information, contact the FSUCML .
Post-Doctoral Position at the Center for Ocean-Atmospheric Predictions Studies (COAPS)
The Center for Ocean-Atmospheric Predictions Studies (COAPS) at the Florida State University (FSU) invites applications for:
A postdoctoral position in the area of scientific analysis of phenomena in coupled ocean-atmospheric models and satellite data. The duties will include but not be limited to working with senior scientists to design studies of couple ocean-atmosphere processes, including but not limited to tropical instability waves and assist training graduate and undergraduate students in analysis. The successful applicant must be proficient in a LINUX environment and have a strong working knowledge of FORTRAN or C. The applicant must be able to either process satellite data or process data from the coupled model runs, and be willing to become proficient in both these areas. Preferred knowledge and skills include familiarity with statistical data analysis and good oral and written communication skills. Familiarity with atmospheric boundary-layer processes is also helpful. A Ph.D. in Meteorology, Oceanography or a related physical science is required.
Applications will be reviewed until the position is filled. A curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests, and contact information for three letters of recommendation should be sent electronically to: bourassa@coaps.fsu.edu.

The Department of Oceanography at Florida State University offers a non-thesis masters program in Aquatic Environmental Science for students who:
- want rigorous scientific training but do not wish to pursue a research career.
- intend to work at the interface of science and another field, for example, journalism, public policy, or planning.
- are prospective or current employees of government and industry seeking careers in environmental or aquatic science.
Applicants to the non-thesis masters program in Aquatic Environmental Science should email Michaela Lupiani, Academic Coordinator, or call (850) 644-7443.
