Research
My research involves examining the role that microorganisms play in marine sediments. Currently, I am looking at sandy sediments both in Georgia and in the Florida Gulf region. I am hoping to determine how nitrification and denitrification are linked to microorganisms by studying the 16SrRNA gene, as well as other functional genes. I also hope to build clone libraries of these sites in order to further understand microbial diversity and how it relates to the marine environment.
