Tenure-Track Faculty Positions

Oceanographer

The Department of Oceanography is seeking to fill a tenure track faculty slot in either biological or physical oceanography. We are looking for excellent candidates who are expected to become leaders in their respective fields. The Department actively collaborates with the Department of Biological Sciences , the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Institute , and supports the FSU Coastal and Marine Laboratory , a facility with coastal vessels and laboratories, focusing on research in the pristine ecosystems of the northeastern Gulf of Mexico.

The search will continue until the position is filled. Applicants should submit a Curiculum Vitae, a statement of research/teaching interests and the names of three referees via email to: Dr. Joel Kostka.

Professor of Oceanography

The Department of Oceanography is offering a 9-month faculty position at the associate or full professor level to lead our new program in marine extreme environment research. This position will be the first of six new positions that will be filled within the next three years within the framework of the Florida State university cluster hire initiative "Extreme Environments" (see pathways.fsu.edu). The positions will be placed in the FSU Departments of Oceanography, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Geological Sciences and Biological Sciences. Research of this cluster will focus on exploration and characterization of marine environments characterized by unusual environmental conditions, e.g. extreme temperatures, solute or gas concentrations, or hydrodynamical stresses. The proximity of FSU to the Gulf of Mexico with its abundant oil and gas seeps, authigenic carbonate deposits, asphalt flows, brine lakes and gas-hydrate bearing sediments provides unique opportunities for this research and exciting discoveries.

Applicants are asked to send a Curriculum Vitae, a statement of research interests, and 3 references in pdf format to: jchanton@mailer.fsu.edu.

This initiative is supported by the facilities of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, the Center for Ocean-Atmosphere Predicion Studies, and the FSU Coastal and Marine Laboratory. Salary range and start up funds are commensurate with qualifications. For further information, contact Jeff Chanton: jchanton@mailer.fsu.edu or Markus Huettel: mhuettel@ocean.fsu.edu.
